Sue's Roost in Eustace has been highlighted as one of the best 40 small town cafes in Texas! Here's the story

Note just below it the reference to the Shed in Edom.. a nice drive from the lake and a neat small town (tho the bakery across the street has better food, I think!)

Why "Such a great retirement area?"

Other than access to water sports, can anyone explain to me why the cedar creek area is such a wondeful retirement area for seniors? On the average we find the area filled with trash and equally poor eating places and places to shop.......of course, there are a very few exceptions to this statement. Is there such a thing as health and code enforcement to protect people from being sick from the food they eat when they eat out?

Our lakefront home is in Gun Barrel city in the North shores addition. We have Embark cable to the tune of sixty dollars a month. The service is terrible, the reception of programs is equally bad. Any suggestions for quality television service in the area, whether cable or a dish service. It seems services of this kind in the area are in the dark ages......at least the radio reception is decent lol.
At our primary home in Collin county we recently switched from Time Warner to AT@T which is a great service and not available in the Cedar creek lake area.

Questions for Ray Nutt

    Voters in Henderson County need some answers from Ray Nutt, candidate for sheriff. Henderson County is the methamphetamine capital of Texas. It has one of the highest rates of child abuse of any county in Texas. It has more actual cases of child abuse than Tyler and Smith County, even though about 120,000 more people live in Smith County. Drug abuse and child abuse are related. It should be remembered that child abuse and the devastating effect on families has tripled from 1997 to 1994 while Mr. Nutt was employed as an investigator in Henderson County.   Citizens of Henderson County cannot be proud of these facts.

    Mr. Nutt needs to tell us if he knew of or was involved in the dispute between the U.S. Department of Justices Drug Enforcement Administration and law enforcement authorities of Henderson County over whether the DEA should make its confidential informants known to the County. The DEA refused to do so and there was a cessation of cooperation between the County and the Justice Department. Is this true? Was Mr. Nutt a party to these discussions? Wasnt he then a paid investigator for the District Attorney for Henderson County? If true, why did this breakdown happen? The most obvious and apparent reason is that someone in the County wanted to know the informants so he or she could protect friends or family from being identified as violating laws against use of prohibited drugs. Can this be a reason for the lack of cooperation?

    Also, Mr. Nutt needs to let the voters know if his home is in Corsicana. The Navarro County Appraisal District lists a 9+ acre tract, acquired in 2002 by Ray Nutt and wife. The Henderson County Appraisal District does not list any property owned by Mr. Nutt in Henderson County. It may satisfy technical legal requirements for Mr. Nutt to list a trailer or mobile home parked on a friends property as his residence. But if his family and most of his possessions are in Corsicana, and he is elected, one might think of him as one does of an absentee landlord. Do we want an absentee Sheriff to deal with the serious crime issues in Henderson County? He voted in Henderson County even though his home seems to be elsewhere. Where did his wife vote? Henderson County or Navarro County?

    Mr. Nutt needs to answer these questions. We all need to do our best to make Henderson County safer.

    The voters have an alternative. Bill Casey does not have such issues and is an excellent officer and experienced administrator.

This little antique store just opened in downtown Mabank. Stop in and say hi to Ben Boyd. Tour his lifetime collection of art and artifacts. Ben spent his career in merchandising for Neiman-Marcus and has a ton of stories to share. He also carries some specialized ladies' fashions from designers he has personally chosen.

Cool Bean Bookstore and Coffee Bar

Recently opened in GBC on North Gun Barrel Lane, Cool Beans is a well organized and decorated used book store. And, there is a nicely done coffee bar with house blends, cafe lattes and other specialty drinks.

Mmmm. great coffee smell when you walk in, and there's a good selection of hardback and soft cover books.

"Seasons" in Mabank

My wife and I had dinner Friday at Season's in Mabank. Wow... fantastic. It's seven courses and, in my book, a 5 star meal. The chef/owner Christine comes out between courses to explain what's coming up and get feedback from diners.

The menu changes weekly based on what owner/chef Christine decides. Call or stop by to find out what's on the menu and to reserve a spot. Bring your own wine and no smoking please. What a find!

Seasons is also open Sunday 11-2 and I've heard the brunch is also fantastic. They also do catering and from what I've tasted, that would be a winner too!
